REVIEW ~To Serve is Divine by RE Hargrave 3.5 out of 5.0

BOOK:  To Serve is Divine

AUTHOR: RE Hargrave

RATING: 3.50 out of 5.00

Review:

This book is remnant to many I write myself. To say I like it is to be extremely under-descriptive. I enjoyed the tension, the back stories and can’t wait to read more about them. I love the characters and Erin/Catherine is just starting to find comfort in her true self and feisty nature.

The story is fascinatingly lengthy, and there were times when I felt more dialog would have helped to pull the story along. However, I have to say the ending didn’t leave you hanging, yet still left you yearning for more—a perfect amount.

I love the main characters and how Jayden seemed to wake up a bit. Men always seem to take a little longer than women at times. The author did a great job unraveling her past without thrusting it in your face or leaving you in the dark.

I hope there is a spinoff of Mistress K. Although her description didn’t match who I thought she would be. Each of his Dom friends with their “talents” would be fun to follow in fact.

Another thing I couldn’t wrap my head around were when I would get to the end of the chapter and a new would begin and I wasn’t even at the end of a “scene”, but then a week or so would go buy and I would be in her kitchen rolling pie crust. I would go back thinking I missed a page multiple times throughout the book.

I have to say the best part of the book is the attention to detail on the scenes and understanding: body, anatomy, and length of time it takes to orgasm. Also, that every scene wasn’t perfect. Sex isn’t perfect and I enjoyed reading that in another’s work.

REVIEW ~ FREYA BEING FREYA BY THOMAS ULLMAN 2.5 OUT OF 5.0

BOOK:  Freya Being Freya

AUTHOR: Thomas Ullman

RATING: 2.50 out of 5.00

Review:

This book was refreshingly different. It is a modern mingling with ancient Norse Gods. I am Swedish after all. 😉 It was a mix of descriptive explosion, which is a gift he possesses, and history all rolled together in one. The story brings in words like: “Bifrost”, “Rainbow bridge”, and “”Asgard from movies like Thor, so you as the reader can relate.

The characters are well defined and I never felt overwhelmed with the amount of them. I did feel tension, however never any other emotions—yet told that the characters were upset or crying. The reader was told that he (the character) liked people, a lot. Show me!

Being the writer’s first piece, I find this is a good attempt and with reworking—this series could be AMAZING in the mythology/fantasy community. I implore the author to find an editor to fix the telling portions to really make this great piece shine, because honestly they have a future in writing, IMHO.

PS the ending! Woah!

Thank you for the pleasure of reading a truly interesting book from a new and gifted writer. I do hope you check this one out. It really did take me on an unexpected ride.

FREYA BEING FREYA

Amazon | Paperback

Book Description:

When he walked through the outskirts of town early one morning, the last thing he was expecting was to fall in love with a Goddess. Not just any Goddess mind you, it was Freya, the Norse Goddess of love, sexuality and beauty. With hair and eye colour that change with her mood, he was simply no match for Freya’s dangerous allure.

Freya Being Freya is a deliciously witty and sensual tale of love and awakening that transcends two very different worlds. It is a humorous, boldly refreshing and empowering story that is anything but your ordinary erotic romance and will most certainly keep you coming back for more.

I apologize for being away. Life was..well, I explained it best by saying Karma sat in a port-a-potty and it exploded all over me. Yeah! That. I have a spreadsheet that has all of the people I owe books reviews to. I added the new ones that have come recently. So far, at least 12. Some are short, if you know me I am a speed reader, so I could probably read them in a day.

Review ~ State of Grace by Elizabeth Davies 3.5 out of 5.0

BOOK:  State of Grace

AUTHOR: Elizabeth Davies

RATING: 3.50 out of 5.00

Review:

I’d like to apologize for taking so long. Personal stuff gets in the way sometimes….

State of Grace was a book filled with mystery — so much so that sometimes the going back and forth (and I don’t mean the actual time) left me confused. The conversation would start, and the first person would drift in internal though that would distract me. The beginning took some time to warm up.

That being said I enjoyed the story a lot. It was a very different read of time travel and vampires that intrigued me. I enjoyed Grace and Roman’s exchanges. The first time she met him I was like…aghhhh! as she returned to her time. I was just getting into it, which is much the same as a person feels in a dream they are awoken from I suppose. Their tension was fantastic. Her questions for him were that which the reader wondered.

The sex scenes were heat level of warm and sexy. But one left me rather cold. L “He took me in the snow. [It was great].” Then later this scene was referred to. I wish I had more insight into it. I can deal with the non-explicit; I loved that aspect in fact. I embrace all sexual descriptions.

The time travel descriptions were deliberate and precise. I can only imagine the time it too to take to create that world. And the editing was perfect as well. There were some words I didn’t know or understand due to differences in culture, but I got the gist of it.

The ending of this extremely long book left me with a feeling of despair. The title seems strange to me as the does the cover, as neither scream what the book is about. The book is not a novel, yet is spans only a few days. I’m hoping for…well–hope for Grace in the next book. And of course more Roman. Something about a dangerous man. Yum!

Book Description:

When Grace, 27 years old and with only a few months left to live, returns to her home town of Brecon, she is catapulted nearly 1800 years into the past. At first she attributes her hallucinations to her brain tumour but as the visions become more detailed and closer to the present day, she becomes involved with a certain wickedly handsome and rather inhuman Roman, who has an obsession with blood.
Grace is forced to confront her fears when the past begins intruding on the present, and she falls deeper in love with her phantom man.

‘Death is only one option.’

A love story with a supernatural twist, it looks at vampires from an unusual angle, knitting together the twelfth century with the present day.
This is the first novel in the Resurrection trilogy..

REVIEW ~ The Bossman – Renee Rose 4.75 out of 5.0

BOOK:  The Bossman

AUTHOR: Renee Rose

RATING: 4.75 out of 5.00

Review:

Whew! Spank you Renee for mixing two things I love strong Mafia alpha males with spanking. I loved that the main character Sophie was sassy but not whiny. It was endearing to see her vulnerability play out in regards to her sexual desires. She had other underlying reasons for wanting to distrust him and giving her heart to him.

His willingness to bend for her quite a lot was sweet and balanced within his strong character. I wish I saw some more of his memories of her, why he felt so strongly for her. There were some times when he had internal thoughts, so the book wasn’t purely in her POV.

Watching them learn each other was intriguing; all the while she was learning more about herself. He found that he too had desires he never knew he had.

I was surprised by the end result, the brothers assessment and approval. You know I am a fan of happily ever afters, especially when they end with a sore bottom. J

Enjoy!

Book Description:

Sophie Palazzo steered clear of the mafia after her father’s involvement ended with his murder. Fifteen years later, Joey La Torre, the Don’s brother himself, shows up unannounced at her massage studio and wheedles his way into a date. She has no interest in aggressive, macho men like Joey, or so she tries to tell herself, but her body just doesn’t get the message. When Joey takes her in hand with a firm bare-bottomed spanking, she ought to be furious, instead, she’s aroused. As she explores her physical desires to be dominated, she tries to keep Joey at arm’s length emotionally.

Joey knows he wants Sophie for keeps from the moment he walks into her life. She is hot, classy and full of fire, even though submission turns her on. But his involvement in the mafia is a hard limit for her, bringing to conflict his own dedication to the Family, the code of silence and his relationship with his older brother. Can he reconcile his duty to the organization and his growing need for Sophie to remain in his life permanently?

Note:  The Bossman contains spanking, explicit sex scenes and anal punishment. If such material offends you, do not buy this book.

REVIEW ~ Sealed in Blood by Jenna Fox 4.0 out of 5.0

BOOK:  Sealed in Blood

AUTHOR: Jenna Fox

RATING: 4.00 out of 5.00

Review:

The book starts off shrouded in mystery. Mystery as to why doesn’t Hunt fit in, who is he? So I was grateful for his internal thoughts.

Her back story was more built up and you instantly loved Charisma…I mean with a name like that, it is sort of hard not to. And her relationship with her friend was endearing. There was great character development and her metaphor placement was perfect, but this is more a personal note, since I’ve known the author since the beginning of her writing and I can tell you she has blossomed quite a lot.

There is a Hitchcock-esq part to it that made me grin because it is pure Jenna. I loved that you had no idea where those damn birds came from.

At the end I was left with: How did I not see that? Wha-what? (And in a good way people) You got me Jenna. 🙂

I have to say, great book, wish there was more…isn’t that really the best compliment?

REVIEW ~ A Hunters Passion by Gwen Knight 4.75 out of 5.0

BOOK:  A Hunters Passion

AUTHOR: Gwen Knight

RATING: 4.75 out of 5.0

Review:

This paranormal romantic read receives a 4.75 out of 5.0 from me. Ryker and Jenna have some unresolved tension and added to it is their worlds are divided. His family on one side and she, even unbeknownst to her (at first) on the other—with Ryker stuck in the middle.

The sex scenes were slow, sexy and hot—burning white hot. I only wish there was a little more action.

It is a fantastically well crafted read, which is not heavy on the paranormal, more so on the story and romance side. I read it in one sitting, well that’s because I am a crazy-fast reader. But it is definitely a swift ride into the Hunter and darkling world.

Review ~ Loving Blake by TN Jones 3.75 out of 5.0

BOOK:  Loving Blake

AUTHOR: TN Jones

RATING: 3.75 out of 5.0

Review:

I truly enjoyed the premise of this book and enjoyed following along the wild ride. And there are a lot of fantastical events and the author threw in wonderful character descriptions for secondary characters. I really enjoyed their ability to create vivid and well described characters. Many authors don’t and I find out later something that they are or aren’t and it distracts me as a reader.

Darren is actually my favorite character. I enjoyed his reflections and he and Blake’s interactions. There is more to their history than is shown, but I have a feeling that will be brought up in the next book.

Now erotica, this has a couple of sex scenes and I mean three or four. However they are well written, but I would have enjoyed more showing, less telling in that department.

The formatting was block, so there was a little confusion at points, where later on I was like “Oh, that who that was”. And the head hopping only adds to it. Some writers are better at it than others. I am definitely not one of those people either. There are tons of characters so when you are given everyone’s point of view it is hard to keep up. With all of that I wish we had better emotional insight truly on the main character Ben. One scene he doesn’t want to be emasculated; the next he signs a contract, which clearly being a legal aid he can read and understand. So I would have loved to see his thoughts on how he came to that…emotionally I mean.

I think my biggest pet peeve was the ending, I mean not a throw your Kindle cliffhanger, but still…you have to buy the next book. And honestly you are built up to love characters only to have them destroyed. (reader pains)

Review ~ Friendly Temptation 4.0 out of 5.0 by Elaine Radley

BOOK:  Friendly Temption

AUTHOR: Elaine Radley

RATING: 4.0 out of 5.0

Review:

This was a sweet read that made me grin from the beginning. Her personality was something I could relate to.

I enjoy these feel good reads. Whisking me away for a bit into their world—and tattoos? Yum! I loved his viewpoint, but the mixing with hers didn’t always work for me. I actually really enjoyed that he had a pretty strong voice in this story.

This story wasn’t exceptionally explicit and would be a perfect read for a long trip. You can definitely read in company of others. I read it outside in the sunshine today. It was sweet and I loved the chemistry between the characters. The build up was fantastic; the author seems to have a knack for that.

Review ~ The Panty Dropper by Liv Morris 2.5 out of 5.0

BOOK:  The Panty Dropper

AUTHOR: Liv Morris

RATING: 2.5 out of 5.0

Review:

I read this on my way back from a long drive. It was well edited and a sweet short, but I was slightly irritated at the build up and then complete let down. It was as if the sex was chopped out of the book and then there we were at the end of the story. Epilogue done.

I was just hoping for more.
